As you would expect, the stars of the silver screen aren’t as affected by the sub-prime mortgage crisis as the rest of us. One thing’s for sure: they don’t tend to live in regular suburbia like the rest of us. John Travolta
Travolta lives next to an airstrip near Ocala, Florida with his planes both parked right outside his house. This fully trained pilot moved to his new home to better accommodate his passion for flying. The house comes complete with two kitchens, one for casual and one for more serious cooking and yes, it looks like an airport terminal. His home is part of Jumbolair, a community for people who want to live closer to their planes and a private runway. The home is worth $2.5 million, but don’t forget to factor in the $100m jumbo jet parked outside.
Bill Gates
The founder of Microsoft doesn’t live in any home, no, Bill Gates lives in house 2.0, so he calls it. The $150m lakeside home was purpose built by Gates in Medina, Washington. The house is, of course, at the cutting-edge of new technology with each guest given a microchip pin which automatically adjusts lighting and temperature settings to a guest’s personal controls.
Britney Spears
Britney Spears’ home must be one of the most photographed homes in America. But after her recent troubles and run-ins with the law, she may have difficulty selling up and getting out of California after reports that she had blown through a few 0% credit cards on adding her own personal touches to provide the blank slate buyers in Studio City, California are looking for. This $70 million property has a three mile driveway and is surrounded by forests; Google Earth is as close as you will ever get to this property.

It’s not the biggest of the bunch, but his home almost provided costly after his opponent got wind of acussations of shady dealings in acquring the $2 million home, with Obama not able to afford the additional land lumped in with the house when he originally wanted to buy the home. Jon Stewart
The comedian owns a $6m loft, with 6,000 square foot of space, a 600ft terrace, and a private rooftop. He didn’t buy it under his own name but sought inspiration from his pets, naming the corporation that brought the West Village loft after his cat and dog. The previous owner kept 1,000 turtles at the now famous address in New York.

When Oprah Winfrey isn’t shooting her chatshow in Chicago, or vacationing in her houses in Antigua, Miami, Colarado or Hawaii she lives in a 52 acre ocean view estate just outside of Santa Barbara, California.
