Director Mario Monciello Dies

Filmmaker Mario Monicelli, 95, reportedly leaped to his death from a hospital window. He had been nominated for an Oscar for four times.
The film-maker’s death was announced live on Italian television. In a 2007 interview, he said he was not afraid of dying, but rather “not being alive”. “Death doesn’t frighten me, it bothers me,” he said. “It bothers me for example that someone can be there tomorrow, but me I am no longer there.”
Monicelli was a critic of the policies of the Italian prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, and what he called the “get-rich culture”. He worked on a documentary about the protest-hit G8 summit in Genoa in 2001 and in June called on students to rise up against plans by Berlusconi’s rightwing coalition government to reduce Italy’s culture budget.

Mark Ruffalo lands on Homeland Security Watch List

Actor Mark Ruffalo suspects that he was placed on the watch list by Pennsylvania State after he hosted the documentary ‘Gasland.’ ‘Gasland’ decidedly comes down against the practice of drilling for gas in the state and Ruffalo has been vocal about his opposition to it.
Ruffalo, 43, told GQ magazine that it was “pretty f**kin’ funny” to be put on Pennsylvania’s list.
Anne Hathaway and James Franco to Host Oscars

The 83rd Academy Awards will be hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco this year. the show will be aired on February 27th of 2011.
Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer, the event’s producers, said they asked the pair to host because they saw them as “fresh, exciting and multitalented”.
They said in a statement: “James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons … We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world on 27 February.

Faith Evans weasels out of 2 DUI charges

Faith Evans, singer, and notoriously ugly, was arrested in L.A. back in August. She was facing 2 counts of DUI, but came to an agreement with Prosecutors. She plead “no contest” to a lesser charge of reckless driving instead.
Besides the probation, Evans must also pay $300 in fines, complete a 3-month alcohol program and must not drive with any measurable amount of alcohol in her system.
Willie Nelson Arrest - had 6 oz of pot in tour bus

Celebrity Country Singer Willie Nelson, 77, and pothead galore was busted at the border when his tour van was searched. The Officers found 6 ounces of weed in a bag on the bus. No surprise there, nor is it a secret that Mr. Nelson loves his pot.
He posted the meager $2500 bail and was out looking from more pot last weed heard.
US Supreme Court will NOT hear ‘Innocent Infringment’ Case

The US Supreme Court declined on Monday to take up a case examining the extent to which those accused of illegally downloading copyrighted material from the Internet may claim the protection of an “innocent infringement” provision.
With the music and movie houses cracking down on pirated material, sites, and individual people. It’s getting harder and harder to gather, host, and distribute pirated material. Those that do get caught are facing fines in the millions of dollars.

Under the law, 16-year-old Whitney Harper faced a fine of up to $750 for each downloaded song. She argued that she was not aware that the file-sharing program on her computer was dealing in stolen property. She said she thought the songs could be downloaded for free, just like listening to the radio on the Internet.
Director Irvin Kershner Dies at 87

Irvin Kershner, 87, most famous for directing Star Wars Episode 5, ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ has died. Lung cancer is said to have been the cause.
“It is because of the emotions stirred in Empire that the entire series takes on a mythic quality that resonates back to the first [movie] and ahead to the third. This is the heart,” said Roger Ebert.
