Avril claims she didn’t rip off Rubinoos song

Avril Lavigne claims she didn’t rip off her hit song “Girlfriend” from a song written from a 70’s rock band entitled “I wanna be your boyfriend”.

Avril posted on her website:

“I had never heard this song in my life
and their claim is based on 5 words. All songs share similar lyrics and
emotions. As humans we speak one language.

“Simply put, I have been falsely accused of ripping their song off. My
songwriting partner Luke Gottwald and I have done nothing wrong and there is
no merit to their claim.”

If you go on the Rubinoos website they have her song posted next to their song and you can compare for yourself. They claim it is more than a similarity and are taking action against the younger punk rocker.

      Hey,
I took the time as a song writer myself to make a comparison of the two songs. I’m sad to say when I was a young writer I also had something stolen.
My determination was that there is no basic infringement of the Rubinoos
      copy write.
      It is absurd!
Remember the term words and music.
that should get you threw. We all share common musical threads.
Let’s stop being so greedy. Life is to short
