Brooke Smith: Fired From ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

It looks like the lesbian romance between Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) and Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) is over because Smith has been abruptly axed from ABC’s hit show Grey’s Anatomy.

Smith says the show’s writers “just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character anymore.” Adds Smith, “it was the last thing I expected.”

Her last appearance on the show is likely to be on Thursday but there’s no explanation as to what happens to her character.

“My final scene is just me heading to my car,” says Smith. “I honestly don’t know what happens in the next episode.”

Smith seems to be in the dark about her quick exit and says, “I was really, really shocked. I was floored when they told me.”

In a statement to EW.com, the show’s creator Shonda Rhimes said: “Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian,” adding “Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke’s character would sustain in the long run.”
