Jeff Archuleta: Dad Can’t Come Backstage of American Idol

David Archuleta
As American Idol comes to an end with only three contestants left, the father of one of the three remaining is banned from coming backstage to be with his son.

It was reported earlier in the season that the father of 17-year-old David Archuleta was a bit controlling and yelled at his son making him cry.

Jeff Archuleta pushed producers too far this past week when he insisted that his son change the lyrics of song “Stand By Me” to include a verse from Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls.” That change cost the show additional fees which was the final straw for them.

The elder Archuleta can no longer attend rehearsals and lost his backstage pass. These were his thoughts on his stage dad reputation:“I’m definitely involved with my son, and I encourage him, but I think that’s a lot different from forcing and threatening and all that stuff. There was absolutely no truth in any of the stories about me yelling at David, making him cry or withholding water from him. That was crazy!”

This poor kid is only 17 and has to deal with not only the pressure of performing and competing on the highest rated show in the country but also some control freak of a dad who can’t just sit back and watch. I’m glad that Jeff lost his backstage pass. David doesn’t need any more stress on him right now!
