Evander Holyfield: Facing Foreclosure

Looks like Evander Holyfield and Ed McMahon have something in common because the former heavyweight champion is also in danger of losing his house to foreclosure.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
The former heavyweight champion appears to be in serious financial trouble. His palatial estate in Fayette County is under foreclosure, according to a legal notice that appeared in a local newspaper, and is set to be auctioned by Washington Mutual Bank on July 1. The home is worth an estimated $10 million.
That palatial estate they refer to is a 54,000 square foot, 109-room monstrosity that also has 17 bathrooms and a bowling alley. On top of losing his house, Holyfield is also being sued for not paying a $550,000 landscaping bill. Man, what a bad week for the guy!
It’s estimated that the guy made $200 million during his boxing career but I guess if you get $550,000 landscaping jobs, that money can sure go quick.
Holyfield did however come back and say he’s not broke in today’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I do feel kind of sad because things have always been positive and now everybody wants to jump on me like I’m the worst person in the world and I went out and blew all my money.”
In addition, “On Friday, Philip Hasty, an attorney for Shapiro & Swertfeger in Atlanta, the law firm representing Holyfield’s lending company, confirmed that the estate is no longer up for auction. Hasty said that the change happened Thursday morning but he declined to comment further”.
So I guess we’ll have to stay tuned to see if the guy who once got his ear famously bitten by Mike Tyson during a fight can recover from this blow.
