Jay Leno Could Be Moving To Fox In 2009

October 4, 2007

Jay Leno

Jay Leno’s contract is up with NBC in 2009, and there’s been a great deal of speculation about what he might want to do next. The New York Post is guessing he’ll continue with late night, and move to Fox:

Jay Leno is not about to retire. Going quietly into the night to sit home and watch his missus Mavis fold bananas into the Jell-O, he ain’t. He is definitely - definitely - moving to another network. Friends think he’s making a big money deal. But, he says, he’s not one to follow the money. He’s one to follow the access. The best TV airtime. The best spot.

The morning line, 2-to-1, is Fox.

Jay Leno is as bland as corn flakes which is probably why he’s been number one in the ratings for so long. It would be a little strange to see him at a network like Fox which seems to generally be more willing to take risks on edgier fare than someone like a Jay Leno. It would also signal a major shift in philosophy at Fox, since they generally hand it over to affiliates for local news at ten instead of eleven. Not sure what that would mean for Leno’s customary 11:30 timeslot. But honestly, the guy sucks, and I’m rooting for him to take his giant chin home to Mavis where we don’t have to hear from him anymore.
