Joe Biden: Named Obama Running Mate
Barack Obama has announced that Joe Biden will join him in the quest to the White House so who exactly is this guy?
Biden is a 65-year-old senior Senator from Delaware and at six terms, is Delaware’s longest-serving senator. He tried to get the Democratic Party’s nomination in 1988 but was unsuccessful and when he ran again in 2008, he withdrew in January after the caucuses in Iowa (he only received 4% of the vote).
Biden hails from Scranton, Pennsylvania and married first wife Neila Hunter in 1966. She died in a car accident in 1972 along with their infant daughter and their two sons were seriously injured but went on to make full recoveries.
Biden was sworn in from their bedsides and even though it meant a daily hour and a half commute home every day, he refused to resign from the position.
In 1977, he married Jill Tracy Jacobs and they have one daughter together named Ashley.
He was hospitalized in 1988 after suffering from neck pains and underwent lifesaving surgery to correct two brain aneurysms which kept him out of the Senate for seven months.
Biden’s eldest son Beau, 37, is the Attorney General of Delaware and will be deployed to Iraq in October serving for the Delaware Army National Guard.
Biden’s younger son Hunter serves as a lawyer in Washington D.C. and also serves on the board of directors for Amtrak.
Daughter Ashley works as a social worker and the “criminal background” that some heard about refers to a night in 2002, when someone threw a bottle at a police officer outside a Chicago bar and Ashley went up and talked crap to the police officer. The charged were later dropped.
And on an important note, Biden is good-looking. He’s pretty hot for a old guy and with studly Obama running with him, at least watching them debate/tour etc. will be easy on the eyes.
