Kid Rock Is Not An American Idol Fan

October 12, 2007

Kid Rock makes a pretty decent point in a Blender interview, saying he’s sick of AI contestants singing only cover songs:

“It sucks. I think they should allow songwriters in. Someone singing a song they wrote - there’s nothing more powerful.”

I don’t think American Idol would be nearly as popular without the covers, but I’d be all for a week where contestants did original material. You can’t tell me that wouldn’t be nearly as funny as the William Hung type moments during the auditions process. It’s possible it would be even better. Watching an Antonella Barba type try to compose a song would be damn good television.
