Madonna: Lends Support to Michael Moore

The Material Girl was on hand in her home state of Michigan with Michael Moore at the Traverse City Film Festival to support the showing of the documentary I Am Because We Are.
Madonna wrote, narrated and produced the movie which was directed by Nathan Rissman and talks about the millions of orphans in the African country of Malawi that have lost parents due to HIV and AIDS.
Malawi, which is the second poorest nation in the world, is where Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie adopted their son David Banda from in October 2006 and the adoption only recently became finalized.
Madonna told the crowd of 500 that she was glad to be in her home state.
“I don’t get here enough. It’s great to be bringing my movie to a place that feels familiar. You can take the girl out of Michigan but you can’t take Michigan out of the girl.”
The crowd showed their appreciation by singing an early “Happy Birthday” to the singer who turns 50 on August 16th.
