MTV Video Music Awards: Highlights

September 8, 2008

Britney Spears
Here’s a rundown of the top five things at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards which aired on Sunday night:

1. Britney Spears opened the show with a skit alongside Jonah Hill and then she took the stage to merely say “Welcome to the show.” Good idea to stick with something you can’t mess up Brit.

2. Russell Brand as host. Love him or hate him? I felt like he was pacing a bit much for me, then he threw me off by pronouncing artists names like Kanye West totally different in his British accent. He also went political and chatted about his preference for Obama and called George Bush a “retarded cowboy.”

3. Rihanna performed her song “Disturbia” and was accompanied by zombie looking things with light wands. She came out in a rolling staircase and reminded me of those cakes where you but the Barbie in the middle and the cake is her dress. But of course her singing was awesome so no complaints there.

4. Christina Aguilera rocked the house in a leather outfit and sang an awesome version of “Genie in a Bottle” and then went into her new single “Keeps Gettin’ Better.” Yep, she’s still got it.

5. Pink performed her song “So What” and used some special effects to make it rock. I liked the sliding down the hanging cloth and the random pyrotechnics. She is so bad ass. Hopefully she doesn’t have seven years of bad luck after breaking that mirror.
