New Dove Ad “Onslaught”

Ad makes a pretty good point and impression here, but I find it pretty damn ironic that Dove is owned by Unilever which markets Axe bodyspray with half naked gorgeous women as well as the diet drink Slim-Fast. Not that I expect my corporations to be consistent or non-hypocritical, I just find it a little amusing.

      I’m with you on this one.

      I saw the spot and thought, ‘This is what happens when you let the feminists get a hold of things.’ It is natural for little girls to be drawn to beauty. They notice it like a laser beam.

      What are these women preparing little girls for, to be noshing cows who don’t give a snot about their appearance? It’s all about nature and the mating game. These women aren’t saving those girls from anything that locking them away in a cloister and telling them men are pigs won’t do. I remember buying my first Cosmo in rebellion of all the suppression of the nuns. I never looked back.

      I was thinking about that ad last night. In an age when there are all kinds of high-tech cosmeceuticals, Dove is schlepping the same old stuff; and stuff that ‘doesn’t really do anything’. So, by telling women to have ‘low beauty expectations and conditioning the young ones to have ‘none at all’, they can sell mediocre toiletry products to great profit, having lowered the bar to ‘real’ beauty, meaning ‘like your average Koala’.

      Little girls want to be princesses, and women (of all ages) want to be goddesses, and they can, in their own way. It’s a matter of defining attitude from which everything flows. Poo on those beauty communists. Let the girls and women see, let them dream, let them unfurl their feathers, and let them fly.

      It’s a little like telling young boys not to look at athletics and athletic stars because ‘this could be damaging for their delicate minds’.

      I call bullshit.

      Someone needs to do something.

      Girls are dying, physically and emotionally, either they have a eating disorder where they don’t eat or they have a eating disorder where all they do is eat.

      But what is really eating them?

      Let them know they are loved.

      This is very true. Letting girls know they are loved does a lot to give them a strong foundation. It is so important. Then, they can enjoy the images of beauty as men enjoy images of athletic prowess, and find their own style of being.

      Unfortunately, when children grow up with narcissisitc parents who expect the child to reflect whatever they want/need in order to be worthy of love, this is what sets the girls on a bad path. They have no sense of self because mommy/daddy only were aloud egos and ego needs. The rage and despair in the girl that she is not aloud to acknowledge let alone feel, turns against herself.

      A really good book for girls and women is ‘A Goddess Is A Girl’s Best Friend’ by Laurie Sue Brockway. Women can filter, pick and choose among aesthetic images if they can find themselves in positive creative archetypes.

      Girls who grow up in religions (most) that seperate the body from the mind and spirit and damn the body, particularly the female body have it even worse. It is a lot more than beauty ads and fashion editorials.

      At least those ads are fairy godmothers with something. Look like that or an approximation and you have a better chance of attracting and keeping a handsome socio-economically attractive prince.

      Oh well. If the young ones fall for it, that just means more meat for the cougars. ;)
