Pregnant Man: To Write Memoir

The world’s first pregnant man, Thomas Beatie, will be writing a memoir about the experience entitled Love Makes a Family: A Memoir of Hardship, Healing and an Extraordinary Pregnancy. Yes, I said pregnant man.
So here’s the details. Thomas Beatie was born a female named Tracy Lagondino but then underwent gender reassignment surgery. She was then legally declared male and married a woman. The transformation was a little tricky though because he removed his breasts, did testosterone therapy but kept his lady parts responsible for reproduction.
He told the magazine, The Advocate,“Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire but a human desire.”
Beatie and his wife of 10 years Nancy decided to go this route because a hysterectomy prevented Nancy from having children.
The couple purchased vials of sperm from a sperm bank and because of the resistance they got from doctors, they resorted to doing the insemination at home.
The first time resulted in a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy with triplets that had to end with surgery and also caused the loss of his right fallopian tube and all of his embryos.
The second time around was more successful and resulted in a baby girl due July 3rd. “I will be my daughter’s father, and Nancy will be her mother. We will be a family,” he wrote.
As you can imagine, a lot of people are against the pregnancy and have a lot of negative things to say to the couple but I think if it makes this couple happy, then good for them.
