Raffaello Follieri: Anne Hathaway’s Ex Arrested

It looks like Anne Hathaway ended things with longtime beau Raffaello Follieri at the right time.
Follieri was arrested today on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering. After his appearance in court, during which he did not enter a plea, Follieri was released on a $21 million bail package that also forced him to give up his passport and only travel within Manhattan.
Apparently, Follieri cooked up a scheme from 2005 to 2007 that he was closely linked with the Vatican which allowed him to get the Catholic Church’s unwanted real estate in the U.S. at a discount. (I hope he claimed that he had the Pope on speed dial. If you’re lying, you might as well go all the way.)
The investor’s money was then used to pay for his $37,000-a-month Manhattan apartment, dog-walking services, restaurant tabs, exotic vacations and privately chartered flights for his girlfriend at the time (the “girlfriend” wasn’t identified.)
He faces 20 years in prison if convicted for the wire fraud charge, but prosecutors said that could be knocked down to 6.5 years if he pleads guilty.
I’m still getting over the $37,000-a-month apartment. Wow.
