Roy Scheider, Famous For Role In ‘Jaws’, Dead At 75

Roy Scheider Dead

Roy Scheider, probably best known for his role as the police chief in “Jaws” died in Little Rock, Arkansas on Sunday at the age of 75. He had suffered from multiple myeloma for several years, and his wife was quoted saying he died from a staph infection.

Scheider had a long and pretty successful career. I had never heard this, but according to his New York Times obit, he was offered the lead role in “The Deer Hunter”, but had to turn it down because he was under contract to do a sequel to “Jaws”.

Roy Scheider’s film career spanned from 1964 (“The Curse of the Living Corpse” ) all the way to the as yet unreleased film “Iron Cross”, scheduled to come out later this year.
