Star Trek’s George Takei: Weds Longtime Partner

Star Trek actor George Takei wed his partner of 21 years, Brad Altman, in a multicultural ceremony on Sunday.
Takei, 71, and Altman, 54, wore matching white tuxedo jackets, black pants and black bow ties while they tied the knot in front of 200 hundred guests including two of Takei’s Star Trek co-stars, Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig, who were maid of honor and best man respectively.
The couple entered to “One Singular Sensation” from the Broadway musical A Chorus Line and stood inside a circle of yellow rose petals to exchange vows, which they had penned themselves.
Altman described Takei as his “life partner, significant other… now I can add ‘my husband’ to the list of things I call you.”
“We have a relationship that’s been stronger and longer-lived than some of our straight friends, and yet we were not equal,” said Takei before the ceremony.
“What this does is give us that dignity; (it’s) being part of the American system and being whole. We’re making the American system whole as well, as America is becoming more equal.”
Here’s to the couple living long and prospering!
