Axl Rose Suing Activision for Having Slash included in Guitar Hero III

Guns N’ Roses front man, Axl Rose, just filed a $20 million lawsuit against “Guitar Hero” maker Activision alleging that the use of song, “Welcome to the Jungle” violated a deal. The deal supposedly agreed not to include any imagery of ex-guitarist Slash in GH game. Rose claimed that Activision told him that if he allowed them the use of the song, they would agree not to reference the former GNR member or his subsequent band, Velvet Revolver. The suit says, “[Activision] began spinning a web of lies and deception to conceal its true intentions to not only feature Slash and VR prominently in ‘GH III,’ but also promote the game by emphasizing and reinforcing an association between Slash and Guns N Roses and the band’s song ‘Welcome to the Jungle.”‘

Front Line Management is claiming that Axl Rose made a verbal agreement to allow them 15% of his earned commissions and they are claiming Rose did not make good on it. They filed suit against Rose on Thursday for $1.9 million which is the fee they claim they are owed for the more than $12 million in earnings Rose made for performances abroad.
Axl Rose had no apparent comment but I do….Who the hell makes oral agreements in this business? Um, can I get a deal?

Guns N’ Roses are being sued for $1m over claims they sampled two tracks by German musician Ulrich Schnauss on their Chinese Democracy CD.
Schnauss’s UK and US record labels claim the song Riad N’ the Bedouins borrowed from his compositions Wherever You Are and A Strangely Isolated Place.
Guns N’ Roses band members, producers and record label Interscope-Geffen are included in the lawsuit.
Chinese Democracy, released 2008, was Guns N’ Roses first album in 17 years.
Electronic musician Schnauss released his tracks in 2001 and 2003.
The lawsuit has been issued by lawyers representing Independiente and Domino Records USA.
After a 17 year wait, there was huge anticipation for Guns N’ Roses album Chinese Democracy, but it suffered from disappointing sales.
Singer Axl Rose is the only original member of the band but other current and former band members are named in the suit. They include guitarist Brian Carroll, bassist Tommy Stinson, and Robin Finck.
There has been no comment yet from the band or their label.
