The band Coldplay is being looked at to sing for Olympics’ opening ceremonies.

Organizers of the 2012 Olympic Games, which will take place in London, reportedly want Coldplay to perform the official Olympic song for the opening ceremonies. The band would perform a specially commissioned ‘Welcome Song’ for a TV audience for more than two billion people. Coldplay tops the list of UK music stars being looked at for the gig.
Insiders say, “Coldplay are the biggest stadium rockers in Britain today, and their style of anthemic music would be perfect for the Olympics. It needs to be something inspirational. The hope is that they would perform at the opening ceremony, as well as [produce] the track, which could help fund good causes.”

Muse and Joss Stone are also being considered for the gig. The opening ceremonies are set for July 27, 2012.

This is the groups second win tonight, after winning earlier for Song of the Year. Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” has been rocked with controversy this week as Joe Satriani said he was going to have his lawyer serve Coldplay during the Grammy’s. Satriani claims that Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” was too similar to the melody of his instrumental “I Just Wanna Fly.”
