Golden Girl, Rue McClanahan, Dies at 76

Rue McClanahan died early Thursday morning from a brain hemorrhage. She played the man crazy southern bell, Blance Devereux, on the hit show, The Golden Girls, from 1985 to 1992. However, the show lives on in reruns that are popular to this day. The show paved the road for other women to play strong, independent women with great one liners, like Sex in the City and Desperate Housewives. Betty White is the last surviving Golden Girls and released a statement expressing her sadness and condolences.

Fred Morrison, inventor of the Frisbee, dies at 90

Fred Morrison, 90, a pilot and carpenter most often credited with inventing that most ubiquitous of backyard toys, the Frisbee, died Feb. 9 at his home in Monroe, Utah. He had lung cancer.

Teddy Pendergrass Dies in Philadelphia

Soul singer Teddy Pendergrass has died at the age of 59 following “a difficult recovery” from colon cancer surgery, his son has told the AP news agency.

Teddy Pendergrass II said his father had died at a hospital in Philadelphia.

He was paralysed from the waist down in a 1982 car accident. In 2001, he went on his first tour since the accident.

Pendergrass enjoyed early success with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, whose hits included If You Don’t Know Me By Now, before going solo in 1976.

MIL of Brittany Murphy Speaks Out

Brittany Murphy’s mother in law, Linda Monjack, has opened up about the family’s shock and grief in the wake of the actress’s untimely death over the weekend.

“He has lost the love of his life,” Monjack says of her son, the British screenwriter Simon Monjack, in an interview with The Jewish Chronicle.

“It’s very hard for everybody, especially Simon and Brittany’s mother,” she said. “I’ve spoken to her mother, and she is distraught. Brittany was an only child, and her mother was living with them.”

Brittany’s mother, Sharon Murphy, has not spoken publicly since her daughter, 32, died of cardiac arrest on Sunday. The death is under investigation, and autopsy results are pending.

Monjack, a hypnotherapist in England, said she met Brittany “right at the beginning” but did not know her “terribly well.”

“We’re just completely devastated,” she said.
