Cheryl Cole has been dropped from the judges panel on the American version of Simon Cowell’s ‘The X Factor’. Cole was dropped and Pussycat Dolls’ lead singer Nicole Scherzinger has been named her replacement. Scherzinger served as a guest judge on the U.K. version of the show and impressed both the judges and producers.

Cole was in the British band, Girls Aloud in 2002. In 2008, she signed on to be a permanent judge on the ‘X Factor’ taking the place of Sharon Osbourne. Two years later, she went through a divorce with husband Ashley Cole, which was a very public turn in her life. During all of the cheating scandal, the fans came to love her more.

FOX will begin airing the show this fall. Cole quit the U.K. version of the show to focus on the U.S. version. There have been all sorts of rumors flying as to why Cole was replaced. Some sources say Cole and Paula Abdul did not have chemistry. However, Abdul posted on Twitter in May that Cole was “lovely”. Other reports say that FOX was afraid that the audience would have a hard time understanding her due to her accent.

Ellen DeGeneres is already receiving a rave review from the judges’ panel at America’s Got Talent, and it came only minutes after the announcement she’d be Paula Abdul’s replacement on American Idol.

“She will be a breath of fresh air on that show, a complete breath of fresh air,” Osbourne, 56, told PEOPLE Wednesday. “It’s new blood. And American Idol needed something new to happen.”

“I think if they had replaced Paula with another singer, Janet Jackson or J.Lo, it would have been too expected,” she said. “‘Oh well, there we go, another singer.’ And with Ellen, you’ve got someone who knows about entertaining, and everything that goes into it, which also speaks for the people.”

Singer Paula Abdul confirmed for the first time that she is officially leaving ‘Idol.’ In her interview with TV Guide she repeatedly mentions that she is leaving based on principles and not about money. Though, she never says what the principle is that she is leaving for.

“I had to stand on my principle,” Abdul, 47, tells TV Guide. “I’m going to miss the experience of watching young talent evolve into a place where they get to take off and soar.” “I believe in myself and you have to have your own self respect,” Abdul says. “And sometimes decisions are very difficult to make, but I’ve always believed that at the core I’m a survivor. There’s not one thing I’ve done that I’ve really set my mind to that I’ve failed at.”
