Lady Gaga Interview in ELLE

December 3, 2009 by m.coonce · Leave a Comment

Whether or not she’s allowed to compete in the Best New Artist category in the 2010 Grammy Awards, it’s clear no performer has left a more glittery mark on the music industry this year than pop starlet Lady Gaga. Her blood-soaked MTV Video Music Awards performance alone will earn her a spot in an upcoming episode of “I Love the 2000s.” But with such a grand persona, it’s easy to forget that behind Gaga’s “Poker Face” lies a regular girl who worked hard to realize her dream. The native New Yorker sat down with Elle magazine to talk about her road to success and her future family plans.

Like many struggling artists, the Fame Monster singer waited tables in NYC to make ends meet and even gained a bit of performance experience along the way. “I was really good at it,” she boasted. “I always got big tips. I always wore heels to work! I told everybody stories, and for customers on dates, I kept it romantic. It’s kind of like performing.”

If you’ve seen any of her performances including that infamous VMA appearance or her music video “Paparazzi,” you know a common theme in Gaga’s work is death, which she told the magazine is very much intentional. “I feel that if I can show my demise artistically to the public, I can somehow cure my own legend. I can show you so you’re not looking for it. I’m dying for you on domestic television—here’s what it looks like, so no one has to wonder.”

Osmond Wins ‘DWTS’, then Pyro Sets Stage on Fire

It was the perfect ending to “an emotional roller coaster season” Donny Osmond told PEOPLE minutes after he and partner Kym Johnson were awarded the Season Nine mirror ball trophy. The former teen idol, 51, humbly addressed fans and press members after the show, tearing up as he tried to express how he felt to be the winner.

“If you saw the work that went into this season,” Osmond said softly. “Kym is so amazing. Of all the things I’ve done in my career, this is right up there.”

When Osmond heard his name called, he rushed over to his wife, Debbie, and swept her off her feet and onto the ballroom floor.

Just moments after Osmond and his partner were announced as champs, a pyrotechnic display on the stage behind them sparked a fire. A tarp covering the orchestra pit and instruments caught on fire while host Tom Bergeron was speaking to the victorious couple live on the air. Two crew members rushed onto the stage with fire extinguishers and put out the flames within a matter of seconds.

While Rihanna granted ABC’s Diane Sawyer an interview about her February assault by her former boyfriend Chris Brown, Brown has taped a segment for MTV in which he addresses the beating that led to his guilty plea to a felony assault charge.

“My thoughts [when I look back on it now] is like, ‘Why did it happen?’ Like, ‘What was I thinking? What is wrong with you?’ That’s what I’m thinking with myself. That’s what my thoughts are, basically, now,” the R&B musician, 20, says in excerpts.

Lindsay Lohan has taken to Twitter to slam her dad Michael, following reports that he is seeking conservatorship over her, and that he’s offered an entertainment TV show tape-recorded conversations between himself and his ex-wife, Dina, in which they discuss their daughter’s well-being.

“My father is a lunatic & doesn’t even deserve such a title since he’s never been around in my life other than when he’d threaten me & my family,” Tweeted Lindsay, who just finished shooting the thriller Machete opposite Robert DeNiro. “He should be where he has always put himself after verbally abusing and physically abusing people all my life-behind bars.”
