David Letterman lets his jokes work for him

If there’s one thing David Letterman has learned this week, it’s that a little contrition and self-deprecating humor can go a long way.

After a shocking admission about office affairs and an alleged blackmail plot, The Late Show host is winning back his fans’ respect with jokes (”I got into the car this morning and the navigation lady wasn’t speaking to me”) and apologies, including one directly to his wife, Regina Lasko, and his staff, whom he thanked for ”putting up with something stupid I’ve gotten myself involved in.” According to the Manhattan district attorney’s office, that ‘’something stupid” came to light after Robert ”Joe” Halderman, a producer at CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery, threatened to expose Letterman’s sexual trysts with employees if the comedian didn’t fork over $2 million. Halderman pled not guilty on October 2, and is next due in court on November 11.

David Letterman makes jokes about himself

In spite of his affairs and the scandal surrounding an attempted embezzling of hush money from him, David Letterman is handling the situation with the same approach and satire he would as if the event was happening to someone else. Here are some of his latest jokes about himself.

On Monday night’s show, Letterman opened with a reference to South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, whose own extramarital affair had made him a previous Letterman target.

“I mean, I’ll be honest with you folks — right now, I would give anything to be hiking on the Appalachian Trail,” he joked about Sanford’s infamous phony alibi.

“I got into the car this morning,” he continued, “and the navigation lady wasn’t speaking to me. Ouch.”

Letterman Apologizes, but knows he has a lot of work

David Letterman acknowledges in his on-air apologies to his wife and staff for having sex with co-workers that he has his work cut out for him.

As Letterman mixed wisecracks with contrition, he said his wife, Regina Lasko, had been “horribly hurt by my behavior” and stated flat-out that those affairs “are in the past.”

The CBS late-night host vowed during Monday’s show to repair his relationship with his wife, whom he married in March after a years-long courtship.

“Let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me,” he said ruefully.

As Letterman faces future shows, how he deals with his messy situation could prove significant and, ironically, it could clinch his recent ratings victory in late-night TV.

Was Paris Hilton the Cause of the Chris Brown and Rihanna scandal?

Acording to OK! Magazine, when Chris Brown and Rihanna arrived in town they “were in a non-stop argument,”. “He wanted to drive to the Grammys in a sports car; Rihanna wanted a bigger car so she could bring friends. They fought, but she gave in. Chris drove and got lost. They were late for rehearsals and she was infuriated.”

Things allegedly got worse after Chris Brown was seen talking to Paris Hilton while Rihanna performed at the Verizon & BlackBerry Storm Grammy party. Supposedly, Paris and Brown went outside together and she was “all over him”.

This story gets crazier and crazier as the days go by.

Why did Chris Brown beat up Rihanna?

Theories:

1) Because Chris has been cheating on Rihanna, who called while they were in the car.
Apparently Rihanna figured it out got upset ,hit him while he was driving and he flipped and beat her up

2) Rihanna Gave Chris Brown Herpes - Currently being denied by Rihanna’s camp

3) Rihanna broke it off with Chris Brown Causing him to flip out and beat up Rihanna

I think Chris Brown was cheating on her and she found out. Not sure how that causes you to flip out and try to kill your girlfriend.

Here is E!’s report as to how it all went down:

[Rihanna and Chris Brown] began squabbling after leaving Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party late Saturday. Shortly after midnight, things blew up. Brown pulled his silver Lambourghini to the side of a street in L.A.’s Hancock Park neighborhood. That’s when, per the source, Rihanna grabbed the car keys and tossed them out the window, sending Brown into a rage.

He tried in vain to find the keys, then came back to the car, put his hands around her neck and, according to the insider, said, “I’m going to kill you!”

The 20-year-old “Disturbia” singer told police that she lost consciousness, the source says, and when she awoke, Brown had fled.

Chris should be locked up for a long time if this is how it went down.
