Cheryl Cole has been dropped from the judges panel on the American version of Simon Cowell’s ‘The X Factor’. Cole was dropped and Pussycat Dolls’ lead singer Nicole Scherzinger has been named her replacement. Scherzinger served as a guest judge on the U.K. version of the show and impressed both the judges and producers.

Cole was in the British band, Girls Aloud in 2002. In 2008, she signed on to be a permanent judge on the ‘X Factor’ taking the place of Sharon Osbourne. Two years later, she went through a divorce with husband Ashley Cole, which was a very public turn in her life. During all of the cheating scandal, the fans came to love her more.

FOX will begin airing the show this fall. Cole quit the U.K. version of the show to focus on the U.S. version. There have been all sorts of rumors flying as to why Cole was replaced. Some sources say Cole and Paula Abdul did not have chemistry. However, Abdul posted on Twitter in May that Cole was “lovely”. Other reports say that FOX was afraid that the audience would have a hard time understanding her due to her accent.

The American version of ‘X Factor’ is scheduled to premier this fall and Simon Cowell has now confirmed that Mariah Carey will take part in the action, but not as a judge.

“I think Mariah will have a role on the live shows,” Cowell said during an interview. “I met her recently and she was on great form.”

Carey is due to give birth to her twins about a month from now, so she will not be able to join the show as a judge in September.

“Her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with,” Cowell said. “She’ll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits.”

There has still been no word on who will take the third judge’s seat on ‘X Factor’, but Cowell is more focused on the auditions right now. He has made the announcement that he will be leaving the British ‘X Factor’ to concentrate on his new show in America.

The winner of ‘X Factor’ will receive a $5 million recording contract from Cowell’s Syco/SonyMusic label.

Reportedly, the first ‘X Factor’ auditions took place in Los Angeles on Sunday and according to reports, there were more than 18,000 people to audition. According to sources, the freeways were jammed around the area and hundreds camped out in hopes of being one of the first seen.

An insider told sources, “The scenes down here are crazy. There are around 18,000 people here, and the numbers are growing by the second. There’s gridlock on the freeways into the venue, it’s absolute chaos. These auditions are going to be going on well into the night — there are a lot of people to get through.”

Looks like Simon Cowell is going to succeed in having another hit show to add to his resume. The winner of the show will receive a $5 million record deal with Sony. The fact that the age requirement starts at 12 has helped to bring in an even bigger crowd. Sources say the contestants ranged in age from 12 to 87.

Saturday’s auditions were also the first round where hopefuls would perform in front of the producers of the show rather than the judges. As of now, the entire line up of judges has not been revealed. So far, only Cowell and famed record producer Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid have been confirmed as judges.

Contestants auditioned in front of producers instead of the judges on Saturday. All the judges have not been revealed as of yet. The only judge confirmed by Cowell to date, is Antonio “L.A.” Reid.

Auditions will be held in Miami on April 6.
