Over the weekend, the nude drawing of actress Kate Winslet from James Cameron’s blockbuster film, ‘Titanic’ was auctioned off. The drawing was sketched by Leonardo DiCaprio’s character (Jack) in the movie, but was actually the works of Cameron himself. According to sources, the picture was expected to bring in £10,000 (over $16,000).
‘Titanic’ was a love story set in 1912 when the ship hit an iceberg and sank. Winslet played Rose, a 17 year old socialite and DeCaprio played Jack, a 20 year old who does not have a penny to his name, but wins the ticket to board the ship in a card game.
In the story, the two fall in love and after making out, they head back to Rose’s suite where she shows Jack the Heart of the Ocean (a diamond necklace which belonged to her fiance, Cal (Billy Zane). Rose asks Jack to draw her wearing nothing but the necklace. Then eighty four years later the drawing takes treasure hunters to Rose so they can learn her story.
‘Titanic’ was the highest grossing movie of all time, until Cameron broke his own record with ‘Avatar’.

It has grossed $1.6 billion dollars, putting it shy of his first record with ‘Titanic’ of only $200 million dollars. To put this in context, ‘Titanic was released in 1998 and it took 3 months to reach the record. ‘Avatar’ was released only 32 days ago, putting it way ahead of the earnings of the first film.
