Michael Grimm beat out Jackie Evancho in America’s Got Talent finale last night, winning a cool $1 million. Grimm told People, “I really thought Jackie had it in the bag. I was preparing my speech to leave. I couldn’t believe I heard my name. I was trying to make sure that what I thought was going on was going on, you know? This is definitely an out-of-body experience. This whole journey has been, but especially now.” So, what is the Mississippi blues singer plan to do with all that cash? Grimm said, “My grandparents don’t have to worry about anything anymore. I can’t put into words what that means to me. They’ve supported me in the music through the years, and they’ve seen me fall and get back up and keep going. Now I can take care of them.”

Our newest Miss USA, Rima Fakih, was just crowned this past Saturday. However, questionable photos have surfaced which were taken while she was crowned for something quite different - she was the grand prize winner at a Detroit radio show’s “Stripper 101” contest held at a gentlemen’s club. Pagent officials are requesting to see more photos before further comment. Funny part is that Fakih took off more articles of clothing for her Miss USA photo shoot than she did for this strip tease competition!

It was the perfect ending to “an emotional roller coaster season” Donny Osmond told PEOPLE minutes after he and partner Kym Johnson were awarded the Season Nine mirror ball trophy. The former teen idol, 51, humbly addressed fans and press members after the show, tearing up as he tried to express how he felt to be the winner.

“If you saw the work that went into this season,” Osmond said softly. “Kym is so amazing. Of all the things I’ve done in my career, this is right up there.”

When Osmond heard his name called, he rushed over to his wife, Debbie, and swept her off her feet and onto the ballroom floor.

Just moments after Osmond and his partner were announced as champs, a pyrotechnic display on the stage behind them sparked a fire. A tarp covering the orchestra pit and instruments caught on fire while host Tom Bergeron was speaking to the victorious couple live on the air. Two crew members rushed onto the stage with fire extinguishers and put out the flames within a matter of seconds.

November 19, 2009 by m.coonce · Leave a Comment

Johnny Depp was named People magazine’s “sexiest man alive” for a second time on Wednesday, joining an elite club of double honorees that includes George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

People magazine described the swashbuckling “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie star as “the king of cool with the killer cheekbones”. Depp, who also took the title in 2003, succeeded 2008 winner Hugh Jackman.

Asked why Depp, 46, had won a second time, People senior editor Kate Coyne told the CBS Early Show: “He was sexy ten years ago, he’ll be sexy ten years from now. He appeals to multiple generations of women — and for many different reasons to different kinds of women.”

Depp’s recent roles include 1930s gangster John Dillinger in “Public Enemies” and the murderous London barber “Sweeney Todd”. His next screen role is as the Mad Hatter in director Tim Burton’s adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” which is due for release in March 2010.

In real life, Coyne noted that Depp, 46, was also a committed father of two.

“He’s sort of everything,” Coyne said. “He’s a guy’s guy, kind of a bad boy, he’s a respected artist and actor. You know, he’s got a little bit of everything.”

People also gave a nod to the popularity of vampire-themed movies and TV shows, adding the likes of “Twilight” heartthrob

Robert Pattinson and “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder to its sexiest issue.

Matt Bomer, star of the new USA TV series “White Collar” was named sexiest rising star. Other newcomers to People’s 2009 list include “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert and “Glee” actors Matthew Morrison, Cory Monteith and Mark Salling.

Past winners of People’s sexiest man alive title include Matt Damon (2007), Matthew McConaughey (2005), Jude Law (2004) and Ben Affleck (2002).
