Taylor Hicks: On Broadway
Taylor Hicks….Remember him? Yes, he won the American Idol title in the fifth season and then after that truck commercial, kind of disappeared. Well the gray-haired crooner is back and headed to Broadway.
He will be playing the role of Teen Angel beginning June 6th in the revival of “Grease.” The flashy role, he said, is “a classic fit for a classic performer.”
“It’s a big number, and, you know, I’ve made some pretty grand entrances before,” Hicks said. “And this one is probably the grandest entrance I’ve had in my career.”
After his Idol win, he was signed to J Records, a label within Sony-BMG, but later lost his record deal.
Broadway is no stranger to former Idols with season-three winner Fantasia Barrino in “The Color Purple,” Clay Aiken in “Spamalot,” Diana DeGarmo in “Hairspray” and Constantine Maroulis in “The Wedding Singer.”
Hicks will end his Broadway debut on September 7th and is also intending to finish up a second album this summer.
“I’ve had the creative freedom and the time to write some of the best music that I’ve ever written in my whole life. … The options are unlimited, and there has been some great interest now that I’m a free agent, so to speak,” he said.

Way to go Taylor. Congradulations on the broadway stint. I personally hope to see you in the movies one day. Also, if you continue on with broadway I hope you eventually make it out to Albuquerque, It’s the only way I will get to see you. You look happy and I’m glad for you. I will be buying your new cd when it comes out.A fan always from Albuquerque. Continued good luck. Ignore the fools with negative comments.
Taylor ,So happy for you. You’re looking happy with where you are. Good luck on broadway. Get that new CD out in the store so I can purchase it, been waiting way too long. I can’t possibly get to NYC,but I am wishing you all the best. Please stay as sweet as you are, and stay clear of the pitfalls. I hope to see you on the big screen one day. I would go to any movie you would be in. Don’t let success go to your head such as Justin Timberlake has. His coment about you was really uncalled for. I refuse to watch him because of it. I don’t know who some people think they are, since you’re all out there just doing your thing. Always a fan from Albuquerque,N.M. JR
Just saw this and had to make a comment. Disappeared after the truck commercial?
That was a very busy disappearing act.
Two back to back tours to mostly sold out venues. Great, energy filled shows. A trip to Asia and Italy. Book signings. Whole bunch of charity gigs, celeb golf tournaments, all star celeb basketball, kentucky derby, taladega, and some time off to write in Nashville. Regis and Kelly.
Bunch of stuff I forgot I am sure. He may not have been where the whole world was watching but he sure has been busy. And now Broadway and Capitol 4th, and a CD release. He’s even busier. He’s fun to watch. Good for him.
