The Ten Best Weird Al Yankovic Videos Of All Time

October 25, 2007

Tuesday was Weird Al Yankovic’s 48th birthday, and in honor of that blessed day the staff here at Top Socialite spent entirely too much time on You Tube watching Weird Al videos. It’s impossible to really rank Yankovic’s videos, as each one is pretty damn genius, but we enjoy making lists so much it sometimes keeps us up at night, so we decided to rank our top ten favorite Weird Al music videos. We are on the younger side so it’s probably a little heavy on the newer Weird Al stuff, but we tried to also show some love for the classics. Here are our ten favorite Weird Al videos of all time:

10: I Lost On Jeoparody
Song being parodied: “Jeopardy” by the Greg Kihn Band (Greg Kihn makes an appearance in the video)
Trivia: The categories in Weird Al’s game: TV Themes, Nuclear Physics, World Geography, Food, Potpourri, and Famous Accordion Players.

9: The Night Santa Went Crazy
Song being parodied:“Black Gold” by Soul Asylum>
Trivia: There are alternate endings to this song, one in which Santa is gunned down by the FBI, while in the other Santa goes to prison for 700 years.

8: Eat It
Song being parodied: “Beat It” by Michael Jackson
Trivia: This was actually Weird Al’s highest chart climber until “White & Nerdy”, getting all the way to #12 in the US.

7. One More Minute
Song being parodied: This one is all Weird Al, done in the style of doo-wop.
Trivia: The picture Weird Al tears up in the video is actually a picture of the ex-girlfriend that inspired the song.

6: It’s All About The Pentiums
Song being parodied: “It’s All About The Benjamins” by Puff Daddy
Trivia: Yes, that’s really Drew Carey at 2:13 in.

5. White And Nerdy
Song being parodied: “Ridin” by Chamillionaire
Trivia: I doubt anyone expected Weird Al to have his biggest selling song so late in his career (and in his late 40’s), but this was his first ever top ten hit.

4: Fat
Song being parodied: “Bad” by Michael Jackson
Trivia: According to Wikipedia, Yankovic acquired his obese dancers by simply placing an ad looking for “very fat dancers”. Which is hilarious.

3: Amish Paradise
Song being parodied: “Gangstas Paradise” by Coolio
Trivia: This song apparently pissed Coolio off, which honestly made us consider giving it the top spot. Because Coolio is that lame. (Looks like Coolio eventually let it go however, to his credit.)

2: Smells Like Nirvana
Song being parodied: “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana
Trivia: The video was shot on the same sound stage as the original. Same weird janitor too. Kurt Cobain took it in fine fashion, saying it was a sign they had “made it” as a band.

1: The Saga Begins
Song being parodied: “American Pie” by Don Mclean
Trivia: Weird Al wrote the entire song based entirely off of internet spoilers concerning Episode One: The Phantom Menace and pretty much nailed the entire thing, making only minor corrections after seeing an advanced screening.

Out of the 10, I was only able to see one. All the others had been removed or disabled for whatever reason. What a rip-off.
