Tim Russert: Death and Funeral

Tim Russert, 58, died Friday after suffering a heart attack while recording voice-overs for this weekend’s Meet The Press.
Russert was hired by NBC in 1984 at their Washington Bureau and became Washington Bureau Chief in 1988. He took over Meet The Press in 1991 and served as the show’s longest running host.
Russert was quite fond of the presidential election coverage and has been praised by many politicians in the past including current presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain.
Obama said, “I’ve known Tim Russert since I first spoke at the convention in 2004. He’s somebody who, over time, I came to consider not only a journalist but a friend. There wasn’t a better interviewer in TV, not a more thoughtful analyst of our politics, and he was also one of the finest men I knew.”
The funeral for Russert will reportedly be closed to the public with many Washington news companies closing for the event. The flags at the NBC headquarters are at half staff which is something normally reserved for statesmen.
Russert’s input will be missed over the next few months leading to the presidential election.
