Todd Bachman: Tragedy in Beijing

August 9, 2008

Beijing Olympics 2008
Todd Bachman and his wife and daughter along with their Chinese guide were attacked with a man with a knife while visiting the Drum Tower in central Beijing shortly before noon.

The Bachman family was in town to cheer on Todd’s son-in-law Hugh McCutcheon, who is the U.S. women’s volleyball coach and married to Todd’s daughter and former volleyball player Elisabeth Bachman.

While Todd passed away from the attack, his wife Barbara is currently in the hospital suffering from “life-threatening” injuries.

“This really puts a damper on the Games,” Joe Smith, team leader for the U.S. boxing squad, told Time Magazine while walking in the Olympic Village.

According to the magazine, the volleyball team was coping while prepping for their game against Venezuela.
