Walmart Aware Miley Cyrus Jewelry was Poisonous but Continued to Sell it Anyway

May 20, 2010

Apparently, Walmart became aware that the Miley Cyrus jewelry line was potentially poisonous but allowed it to remain for sale at their stores - where young kids unknowingly bought this jewelry - for months. The Associated Press did a test on the jewelry and found that the jewelry contained unsafe levels of cadmium. Cadmium can cause bone softening, kidney failure and other conditions. Walmart put out a statement saying that the jewelry was “designed for and marketed to older audiences” and “not intended for children.” They confirmed they will no longer sell the jewelry until they confirm it is in safety compliance. Of course, they should have done that in February when they were made aware of the situation.
