You want to go to the movies, but none of your friends are free. So now, you don’t go because you are afraid to go alone. Why is this? Why have we become so embarrassed to go out in public by ourselves?
I used to cringe when I would hear one of my friends say that they went to the movies on their own. I would think, “Who does that?!” But really, this is a great idea! You get to do what you want, when you want!
How many times have you refused to do something because you didn’t have a companion? Think about it. You probably have turned down plenty of opportunities because going out alone seemed intimidating. But have you ever thought of the advantages of just doing what you wanted, even if there was no one by your side? So why should you do things on your own?
1. You Get to Do What You Want
Planning events with others can be a pain in the you-know-what. But if you go by your lonesome, you have no one to complain about the choice of venue. That new chick flick that just came out? Yeah, you can go without hearing your boyfriend complain about it!
2. You Can Go at Your Own Pace
When going shopping with friends, you have to compromise on which stores you are going to enter and how long you will stay. However, when you are at it alone, you can choose the stores and how long you want to stay!
3. You Learn More About Yourself
When you are alone, you learn more about what makes you happy and what you enjoy doing. I have learned that in order to become a better person, you need to take time to really learn about yourself. Being alone is just the time to do this!
4. Doing Things Alone Does NOT Make You “Lonely”
No matter what people say, when you go out alone, you are not considered “lonely”. You have friends and family, but choosing to be by yourself every once in a while will actually make you appreciate your loved ones more. Also, going out alone could increase the potential of meeting THE ONE. Without your entourage around you, there are more opportunities to talk to people you might have an interest in.
Although it may seem intimidating at first, you should really try doing things alone every once in a while! You will benefit more than you can imagine!
