2008 Summer Olympic: Closing Ceremony
London has big shoes to follow in 2012. China again provided an amazing spectacle at the closing ceremony of the 16-day world sport extravaganza and it will definitely be hard to top.
The U.S. Team walked away with the most medals, surprise, at a total of 110 and China was close on our heels in second place with 100 medals.
There were give countries that picked up their first Olympic medals at this year’s competition. Bahrain won gold in the Men’s 1500 meters, Sudan took home silver in the Men’s 800 meters, Afghanistan got the bronze in Men’s Taekwondo, Mauritius took home bronze in boxing (they’ve only competed since 1984) and Togo won bronze in canoeing.
Singapore’s Women’s Table Tennis Team took home silver and it’s their only medal since winning a silver in 1960 in weightlifting.
